Bona Dea Update

Bona Dea was sunny and warmer today. Looks more and more like springtime. The Robins were all over the park again. The blackbirds, Grackles, were still mirgrating to the west. The Canadian Geese are separating up from the flocks and starting to look for nesting sites. While I was at Waldon Pond, a pair flew in there. Usually they go to Black Water Swamp a short distance away. Photo of a pair. Some pairs did go over there as well as flocks of Mallard and Teal ducks. There were pairs of Northern Cardinals at the head of Swinging Bridge Trail. Also this trail and at the spillway there were numerous Black-capped Chickedees. They were quite noisy today. Probably because there were so many of them. Photo of one. Off to the left of the trail was my friend the Great Blue Heron. He did not move but watched me pass by. Photo of him as seen at same place before. Not much happening at the Old Swinging Bridge but did see an old dead tree that the woodpeckers had worked over pretty good. Will photo this sometime and will post. Several Gulls were flying high overhead. They should be moving out pretty soon. Also some Turkey Vulchers flying around except this time not in groups but singley. There were 2 Double-crested Cormorants on the old snag on Lake Dardanelle across from the park. Don't know why they like this snag so well as probably and good place to see fish to dive for dinner. Also some Gulls were floating in the water close by.

Love your descriptions of this beautiful nature preserve...sure glad spring has arrived. Time to bring out my camera and head for the woods myself. You might have given me the nudge that I need to do that!

Thanks Ron. I need to get another camera. Spring is here in this part of the country.

Been busy...and then sick. Haven't dropped in for quite a while. Actually missed Bona Dea. :) That 3rd photo is wonderful. Is that a heron?

Oh, and I also noticed your flag counter. Funny how your top 5 is the same as mine. Now we know where netizens are from. :)
